A telehandler, also known as a teleporter or a zoom boom, is a machine widely used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend forward and upward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a winch. In industry, the most widely used attachment for a teleporter is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move material to and from locations unreachable for a standard forklift. For example, zoom booms have the capability to move palletized cargo from within a container and to place that material on to rooftops and other elevated places. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site. In agriculture the most widely used attachment for a teleporter is a bucket, again the most common application is to move loads to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader.
