A telescopic handler, also called a lull or a zoom boom, is a machine often used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend forward and upward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a muck grab.
In construction, the most common attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from locations unattainable for a conventional forklift. For example, teleporters have the capability to move palletized product from within a container and to place that material on to rooftops and other elevated places. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site.
In agriculture the most common attachment for a reach forklift is a bucket, again the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For instance, teleporters have the ability to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
