A telescopic handler, also called a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a piece of equipment often used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a winch.
In construction, the most widely used attachment for a teleporter is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unreachable for a standard forklift. For instance, zoom booms have the capability to remove palletized product from within a container and to place that cargo on to rooftops and other elevated places. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site.
In the agricultural industry the most common attachment for a zoom boom is a bucket, and the most widely used application is to transport from and to unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which in this case is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, lulls have the ability to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
