A telescopic handler, also known as a lull or a zoom boom, is a machine widely used in the agriculture industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a telescopic cylinder, making it more a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a muck grab. In industry, the most widely used attachment for a reach forklift is pallet forks and the most common application is to move material from and to places unreachable for a standard forklift. For example, zoom booms have the ability to remove palletized cargo from within a trailer and to place that product on to rooftops and other high locations. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site. In agriculture the most widely used attachment for a lull is a bucket grab, and the most widely used application is to transport from and to unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which in this case is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader.
