A telehandler, also called a teleporter or a zoom boom, is a piece of equipment often used in the construction industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend upward and forward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a muck grab.
In industry, the most common attachment for a zoom boom is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move material from and to places unattainable for a standard forklift. For instance, teleporters have the ability to remove palletized material from within a trailer and to place that product on to rooftops and other high places. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site.
In the agricultural industry the most common attachment for a telehandler is a bucket, and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, reach forklifts are able to reach directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
