A telescopic handler, also known as a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a machine often used in the agriculture industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a telescopic cylinder, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a muck grab.
In construction, the most common attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most common application is to move material to and from locations unreachable for a conventional forklift. For example, lulls have the ability to remove palletized product from within a trailer and to place that material on to rooftops and other high locations. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site.
In agriculture the most widely used attachment for a teleporter is a bucket, again the most widely used application is to transport to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For instance, telehandlers have the ability to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
