A telehandler, also called a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a piece of equipment widely used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach forward and upward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a winch.
In industry, the most widely used attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most common application is to move material from and to places unattainable for a conventional forklift. For example, teleporters have the ability to remove palletized cargo from within a container and to place that cargo on to rooftops and other elevated locations. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site.
In agriculture the most widely used attachment for a zoom boom is a bucket, and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which in this case is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, lulls are able to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
