A telehandler, also known as a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a piece of equipment widely used in the agriculture industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a muck grab.
In industry, the most widely used attachment for a reach forklift is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads from and to places unreachable for a conventional forklift. For instance, telehandlers have the ability to move palletized product from within a box truck and to place that product on to rooftops and other elevated places. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site.
In agriculture the most common attachment for a telehandler is a bucket grab, again the most widely used application is to transport to and from places unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, lulls are able to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
