A telehandler, also called a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a machine often used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a winch. In industry, the most common attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move material to and from places unreachable for a standard forklift. For example, telehandlers have the ability to move palletized material from within a box truck and to place that cargo on to rooftops and other high places. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site. In agriculture the most common attachment for a reach forklift is a bucket grab, and the most common application is to transport from and to unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader.
