A telescopic handler, also called a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a machine commonly used in the construction industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a boom, making it more a crane than a forklift, with the expanded versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a muck grab.
In construction, the most common attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads from and to locations unreachable for a standard forklift. For example, zoom booms have the capability to remove palletized product from within a trailer and to place that product on to rooftops and other high locations. The latter use would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site.
In agriculture the most common attachment for a telehandler is a bucket grab, again the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, zoom booms are able to reach directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
