A telehandler, also known as a teleporter or a zoom boom, is a piece of equipment commonly used in the construction industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a telescopic cylinder, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach forward and upward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a winch.
In construction, the most widely used attachment for a reach forklift is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from locations unreachable for a standard forklift. For example, reach forklifts have the capability to move palletized material from within a trailer and to place that product on to rooftops and other high places. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site.
In the agricultural industry the most common attachment for a reach forklift is a bucket, and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For instance, lulls are able to reach directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
