A telescopic handler, also called a lull or a reach forklift, is a machine often used in the construction industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a boom, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can reach upward and forward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a muck grab.
In industry, the most widely used attachment for a zoom boom is pallet forks and the most common application is to move loads from and to locations unreachable for a standard forklift. For instance, reach forklifts have the capability to move palletized material from within a box truck and to place that material on to rooftops and other elevated locations. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a job site.
In agriculture the most widely used attachment for a reach forklift is a bucket, again the most common application is to move loads to and from places unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For instance, reach forklifts are able to extend directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a conveyor, or something similar
