A telescopic handler, also called a lull or a reach forklift, is a machine commonly used in the construction industry. It is similar to a forklift but has a telescopic cylinder, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend forward and upward from the vehicle. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as pallet forks or a winch.
In construction, the most common attachment for a teleporter is pallet forks and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from locations unreachable for a conventional forklift. For instance, lulls have the ability to move palletized material from within a box truck and to place that material on to rooftops and other elevated places. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient on a work site.
In the agricultural industry the most widely used attachment for a telehandler is a bucket grab, and the most widely used application is to move loads to and from places unreachable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For example, zoom booms are able to reach directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a loading ramp, or something similar
