A telescopic handler, also called a teleporter or a reach forklift, is a machine often used in the construction industry. It is somewhat like a forklift but has a telescopic cylinder, making it more like a crane than a forklift, with the increased versatility of a single telescopic boom that can extend forward and upward from the machine. The boom can be fitted with different attachments, such as a bucket or a winch. In construction, the most widely used attachment for a telehandler is pallet forks and the most common application is to move loads to and from places unreachable for a standard forklift. For instance, reach forklifts have the capability to remove palletized cargo from within a box truck and to place that cargo on to rooftops and other elevated locations. The latter application would otherwise require a crane, which is not always practical or time-efficient in a construction zone. In the agricultural industry the most widely used attachment for a reach forklift is a bucket, and the most widely used application is to move loads from and to unobtainable for a 'conventional machine' which is typically is a wheeled loader or backhoe loader. For instance, zoom booms are able to reach directly into a high-sided trailer or hopper. The latter application would otherwise require a loading ramp, or something similar
